Essays on statistics
The Bank of Finland collects and publishes many kinds of statistics which you can see on the Bank of Finland's
statistics web page.
Essay task 1. Look through the pages for a statistic that tells you the value of the euro in relation to the dollar during 2000-2005. Based on the statistic, consider how the value of the euro has influenced the economic situation of Finnish export companies.
Essay task 2. The central tools of monetary policy within the Eurosystem are the key interest rates (policy rates) set by the Governing Council of the ECB. Find a statistic that describes the key interest rates of the Eurosystem. Examine the development of the rates since 2005 and consider what factors have influenced the changes in them.
